The children in First Class have been very busy learning all about procedural writing over the past few weeks. Procedural writing teaches children how to explain a process clearly and in the correct order using simple instructions and sequencing words such as first, next, then, and finally.
To put their learning into practice, the class wrote their own step-by-step instructions on how to plant seeds. The children carefully discussed everything that was needed, from preparing the soil to watering the seeds.
After completing their writing, it was time for the real fun to begin! The pupils followe
d their own procedures and planted seeds in the classroom. Each child took great care filling pots with soil, placing the seeds gently inside, and giving them water and sunlight.
The classroom is now full of excitement as everyone watches closely for the first signs of growth. This hands-on activity was a wonderful way to connect literacy learning with science and nature, while also encouraging responsibility and teamwork.
Well done to all of First Class on their fantastic writing and gardening skills — we can’t wait to see the seeds bloom! 🌱
